Before the game it was Messi Messi Messi....but the spanish media forgot whos the coach of Chelsea....Hiddink is a genius....call it watever football u like but Chelsea played well...Its the first time this season Barca have been prevented from scoring a goal at home...last time it was Man U at same stage of the CL...and its not easy to stop barca from scorin...even if u have 11 men in ur own half....why havent other teams done that ? It was quite boring and frustrating... but that is what we were to expect from Chelsea, they know that they are outclassed in every section of the field except defense... Pique and Rafa a couple of times were quite scary!
But other then that, nothing new... Chelsea came to NOT lose, to NOT get clobbered, and to take a draw back home, nothing else, they hung all their players at the goal.. like bats, why? because that is the only way you can defeat a goal scoring machine like Barza.
The second leg will be interesting, a tie and Barza is through... so not really smart of Chelsea. Another factor to take into account is that Barza will have the Clasico this weekend, we'll see what they're made of by the end of next week...

well said mate. well said. you play with what you have. it's strategy. statistics show that barca ALWAYS score A LOT at nou camp no matter what team they play. so if u'r a good manager, you will try to minimize it by defends or if possible get a draw and then get a win at your home where supporters are behind ur back. of course it will backfire if barca score a lot at stamford bridge, but you have to gamble. now puyol and marquez is out. so it's possible chelsea can still win.

People admire this Barça team, because they're one of the few teams that play, like you said, sexy and attacking football. Sure, we should give credit to good defensive football, but that's nothing new. There are lots of teams that play defensive football. Italy won the World Cup playing defensive football, Greece won the Euro 2004, Liverpool were also a highly defensive team when they won the CL. But i prefer attacking football, i think everybody does! But it seems like Chelsea played like a 2nd rate team, with no ambition. They could at least tried to get an away goal. It seems like they can only play good defensively if they completely give out on attack, or else they will concede 4 goals like against Liverpool or the 3 against Bolton. They can't seem to be able to play good attacking and defensive football in the same match, it's only one or the other.

Im an Arsenal and also love to watch barca as they both play free flowing football, so this game was painful for me to watch. In terms of tactics and result, chelsea got what they came for, but from a football perspective it was by far the worst game i've seen in the champions league. I was shocks by have deep chelsea were playing and to only have a shot on target (From a mistake at the back) is a disgrace to chelsea. Anyways it will be interesting to see how they'll go about it in London, but it will be a shame if the best footballing side fails to reach the final. Btw did anyone think that the ref had shit game as well?

Football doesn't work like that, the scoreline is what decides games, not how attacking either team were. Chelsea couldn't score, but neither could Barca, so neither deserved to win, and the scoreline was a fair one.

Job well done Chelsea. Who cares if they didn't score or play some 'beautiful attacking football.' that wasn't the mission coming into this tie. it was a test to see how strong our defense was and they held out pretty well. Barca didn't score and thats that.

Hopefully there will be more goals at the Bridge next week. and a formation change as well with Kalou or Anelka partnering Drogba upfront.

I don't get it.

Although as a Chelsea fan, I was very surprised with their tactic. But this cannot be called cheap or any of that sort. It's a tactic to play against a good team, what more can be said?

The only way I can see people bashing is because Barca fans thought this was going to be an easy win and even the predictors were saying 'It will be a 3-1,' 'It will be 2-1,' 'It will be 4-2.' However, Chelsea came out to be a smarter team and countered the amazing strikers Barca had. What more can be said?

If Barca was truly as unstoppable as some of you say, then why did they not score?

Those of you who are bitching at Chelsea simply do not understand football tactics. Guess what, despite what you think, the object of sport is to WIN, not to provide entertainment. If the goal was the latter then sure, each team can put all their stock in offence and we'll have a 7-5 scoreline. All you with ADD can then cheer...

But this is not the point. The point is to win, and if you are Chelsea the only way to win to prevent Barca from scoring. And how do you stop the best attacking team from putting 3 or 4 away? You play defence, get a draw or a win (from the one or two chances you inevitabely will get), go back home and try to beat them on your home turf. That is simply commonsense, and the fact that Chelsea was about to pretty much prevent any scoring chances from happening shows their class, their skill, their organization and their focus. Sure it was not a goal-a-minute game, and yes I admit it was dry at times, but I thought it was amazing football. Anyone who understands soccer would appreciate the organization of Chelsea. Only goons with little understanding of tactics would get as riled up as half of you are.

Besides, Drogba almost scored, should scored. Can you imagine if he did, and Chelsea won 1-0, how much Guus' tactics would be praised. Chelsea did what any team should do if they want a chance at beating Barca - neutralize their offence and hope that one of your chances finds the net.

The point of soccer, and all sport, is to achieve victory. To do so teams play to their strengths and try to eliminate their opponent's. If Chelsea played a 3-4-3 open attacking style they probably would have lost. Knowing that why would any thinking person do so? Just because people like you who have no understanding of the subtlies of the game have no attention span? Chelsea played great and put themselves in a great position for the return leg. If you were Chelsea's manager, would you knowingly sacrifice your team's chances - aka set your team up to lose - just for the sake of "entertainment"?

Of course soccer is meant to be entertaining. But what I meant is, clubs, before a match, do not think, "what tactics could we use to be the most entertaining club"...No, they pure and simply think, "what tactics could we use to WIN". That is what I meant, that the raison d'etre of football, and all sport, is to win. The entertainment aspect is a byproduct. It is the sole responsibility of clubs, and thus their managers, to organize a team based on what will give them the greatest chance of victory.

The rest is not directed to you, but in the case of Chelsea vs Barca, obviously the only chance Chelsea have to nuetralize Barca's attack. This, because of Barca's potent offence, requires extreme defending. So be it. It works. Does anyone else out there not appreciate the organization of the Chelsea defence? Most clubs try the very same thing Chelsea did yesterday but still get 3 or 4 goals scored against them. No one bitches about them because they still get scored on. That Chelsea was successful in preventing goals I found very entertaining, and I think most people who know football would agree. A well organized team is a treat to watch as well, but only if you understand football...

Barça aren't going to change their mentality for the away game, they're still going to play attacking football. And they know how to play attacking football and still play good defensively. The thing with using good defensive tactics, is that if you're a 2nd rate team it's KINDA ok to forget completely about the attack like Chelsea did. But Chelsea isn't a 2nd rate team, and whereas some people say that they approached the game with Barça humbly, i'll say that they approached it with lack of ambition. They just defended and didn't try to counter-attack (Kalou or Anelka could've played since they're quick players, for example) and get an important away goal. The one chance they got was just a mistake by Marquez. Now i think they're gonna have to win the home game, because a draw with goals isn't enough. So Chelsea are gonna have to attack more, leaving the defense more vulnerable this time. And Liverpool scored 4 goals at Stamford Bridge, so what makes people think that Barça isn't capable of that?

Difference is manchester is better team then chelsea and barcelona was worse team last season. 0-0 is hardly good for chelsea considering u will have to attack and keeping clean sheet is even more important.

sometimes i do feel that some referee have the intention to help certain team. this is a match that prove my point. barcelona didn't score but the referee did help chelsea get away with everything they did. they display poor, underhand tackle and lousy sportmanship. if the referee is a decent one, chelsea may lose the tie if they can't play dirty. Congrats referee, u r pretty lousy

Hasil Semi Final Liga Champion Eropa terbaru Barcelona vs Chelsea adalah 0-0. Hasil semi final Liga Champion Barcelona vs Chelsea tidak sama dengan prediksi hasil Barcelona vs Chelsea saya. Hasil Barcelona vs Chelsea ini di bawah harapan saya.

Padahal menurut saya pribadi, Barcelona musim ini sangat spektakuler dibandingkan Chelsea, tapi apa boleh buat itulah Sepak Bola… tidak bisa diprediksi sebelumnya, kadang tepat kadang juga meleset.

Saya berharap adanya pesta gol di pertandingan tersebut, tapi mungkin karena pertandingan ini adalah pertandingan semi final Liga Champions leg pertama, jadi Barcelona dan Chelsea bermain hati-hati dan permainan Chelsea pun cenderung bertahan, ketimbang Barcelona yang terus MENGGEMPUR barisan pertahanan Chelsea, yang habis-habisan bertahan demi tidak kebobolan 1 GOL.

Dengan hasil Semi Final Liga Champion Barcelona melawan Chelsea ini, maka Barcelona pun harus meraih minimal hasil seri 1-1, atau bahkan menang di Stamford Bridge, dan Chelsea pun harus menang di pertandingan semi final Liga Champions leg 2 kalau ingin mengulang suksesnya di musim lalu, dimana Chelsea berhasil untuk pertama kalinya menembus Final Liga Champion dalam sejarah Club tersebut.

Tapi, secara pribadi.. terus terang saya mendukung Barcelona untuk menjadi juara musim ini, karena memang kita melihat penampilan anak asuh dari Joseph Guardiola ini, sangat mengagumkan.. di kancah DOMESTIK atau di kancah LIGA CHAMPIONS.

juaraDi perempat Final Liga Champions aja Barcelona menghajar habis-habisan Raksasa Jerman Bayern Munich dengan agregat 5-1, untuk itu harapan saya Barcelona bisa mengulangi suksesnya di tahun 2006 dimana Club tersebut berhasil Menjuarai Liga Champions Eropa untuk kedua kalinya dalam sejarah Club tersebut.

Nah, mungkin itu saja Ulasan dari saya pribadi.. mungkin bagi para pembaca ada yang mau ditambahkan, apalagi kalau bagi PENGGILA BOLA (seperti saya.. hehehe… :D ), dan semoga besok hasil MU vs Arsenal lebih baik daripada hasil Liga Champion Barcelona vs Chelsea.
