The most memorable 3 minutes in a final. It was a perfect climax to a great game. But as a final, i would consider the 2005 one more memorable. There was just this amazing roar from the crowd (especially the Liverpool fans) throughout the 2nd half and the extra-time. Milan dominated the 1st half, then Liverpool had an amazing comeback in the 2nd half, then Dudek had some great saves in extra-time, and then the climax of the penalty shootout. Amazing game as a whole.

worst 3 minutes of my soccer life. United didn't deserve it.
    Bayern rules! (2001)
Christiano Ronaldo is an arrogant clown.
    go ballack!

well i'm not a fan for both side, but it was a drama. i can't stop laughing. poor kuffour, who cries in the end.

"no one will ever win a europena final more dramatic than this?"...I BEG TO DIFFER...I'm a chelsea fan but liverpool and milan was the best champions league final ever
  • ray · 1 year ago
Even as a Liverpool supporter I can admit this was a good final, but as many have said above, Liverpool and Milan '05 was a better final. I'd probably give this the second best I've ever seen.
  • woo · 1 year ago
as great as the liverpool v milan comeback was, i think that the man u v bayern was more dramatic (last minute of the game)
  • boowoo · 1 year ago
i remember watching this game on TV until the 80th minute, thought it was all over so went outside to play some footbal with friends, then was told i missed the drama. i was so gutted :(

never never never leave the TV until the ref says you can

I have to agree with most of the posters here.

    2005 Final is the best

    3 - 0 Milan at half

3 - 3 at the end of regulation

A couple jaw-dropping saves by Dudek in extra time

Dudek saves two penos to win the match

Liverpool's comeback vs Milan was great, make no mistake about that. However, scoring 2 goals in 3 mins is a MUCH GREATER feat than scoring 3 goals in 10 mins! That being said, Man Utd vs Bayern >>>>>>>>>> Liverpool vs Ac Milan
  • dlan4327 · 1 year ago
Definitely the most memorable end to a match. The late, late show as always. :)

That said I can think the two most entertaining finals are AC Milan Vs Barcelona, 4 - 0 to Milan. Awesome match.

The other is Real Madrid Vs Eintracht Frankfurt, 7 - 3 to Madrid. Puskas grabbing 4, Di Stefano got 3.:d/
  • cpk210 · 1 year ago
Wow. This is the first time i've seen the '99 final. I'm still in shock. What a great way to win.

Although Liverpool vs Milan was so much more dramatic. To come from 3 behind and win...incredible. Both are very well played games. :)

It seems that you're saying that scoring 3 goals in 10 minutes against Milan is an easy feat [-x
I think everyone can agree that the 1999 final had a more memorable end to a match. The climax of the game was at the end, and people remember that more clearly. But as a match, it was a so-so game, and Bayern actually outplayed Man Utd.
As a WHOLE match, the 2005 final was way more entertaining and memorable, and as an outsider (i'm not a supporter from neither one of those 4 teams) i was at the edge of my seat throughout the whole game, and not just the last 3 minutes.

Nothing is as special as that night in Istanbul. This is close, but not near what Liverpool did
  • soccerlol · 1 year ago
its funny how all these chelsea and lliverpool fans say that the 2005 final was better...unbeknownst to them that their bias makes their argument completely irrelevant

IMHO...this one was waaaaaay more dramatic...they won it on LITERALLY the last kick whereas liverpool won in penalties which is the epitome of anti-climactic
  • Bill · 1 year ago
Last I checked AC Milan and Liverpool weren't gunning for a treble were they. That is what makes this special.
  • Overmars · 1 year ago
    Istanbul much much better final.
Man U and Munich had ****** teams in that final that played very defensive football and man u scored from a corner! how exciting !? (sarcasm)
Kaka is twice the player Man U or munich had.
Man U were incredibly lucky to win the treble and only had one opponent for the FA cup and the league (Arsenal, Bergkamp should never take penalties). So Istanbul is much more exciting final.

If it was dramatic I didn't see how from that...

how hard is it to score 3 goals in 45 minutes compared to 2 goals in 3 minute? :-?

well. Liverpool scored 3 in 10 minutes;) so...
  • sadesh · 1 year ago
uniteds victory was certainly dramatic...i mean they had won 2 trophies, going for third..no one has ever done that.. and to win it in the last 3mins..unbelievable..liverpool had 45mins to get 3 goals and they had well rested players ahead of their fixtures against milan....milan were going all out for their seria A title too...liverpool had nothing to play for except this, so going 3-0 down at the interval was all their doings...but still they had 45mins to get back..united had 3mins and scored 2....but my guess is. when smicer/solskjaer scored the drawing/winning goal the fans would have had the same shot of madness...
  • OMON IMO · 1 year ago
That was definitely a match to remember. The climax of the game was the lat 3 minutes and Man Utd proved again that they deserved the cup. I hope they do the same in 2008 final.

To compare Man United to a religion is insluting to humanity. Religion is something that goes back thousands of years and touches the lives of billions.

Perhaps Man U are the Scientology of religion.

Mind you if Scientology is a religion perhaps Man U can be one too. Perhpas I will go on a pilgrimage to Old Trafford and see the light, or pray to Sir Alex and hear his wise words on the wisdom of using midfielders as wing backs (like Prandelli does at Fiorentina). Perhaps in my darkest moments I can think of that red shirt and the little nike swoosh and it will give me strength.

Anyway, apologies for this, but really,Man U are not a religion they are a football team, just like any other.

I live on the other side of the globe and this match was played in the wee hours of the morning. I remembered screaming my lungs out and running and jumping up and down. The first goal woke up my entire family. The second goal, however, woke half my neighbourhood. :d:d
  • dek · 1 year ago
The 2005 final was memorable too. But dramas and climaxes are built in the dying minutes. If Liverpool had won that final without going to penalties, only then would I say it more memorable than the 1999 final.
  • Austin · 1 year ago
I remember this final very well; at the young age of 14 sitting in the front room watching United seemingly going to lose; I'm sure both sets of fans can understand the euphoria of coming back from what seemed a lost cause to win in Europe. I still hold memories from '99 more dearly than I would hold Liverpool's 2005 success; but as a Man United fan, I cheered Liverpool on all the way when I watched that game.

I guess my point is that they cannot be held in comparison to each other as they were both unique scenarios.
  • howie · 1 year ago
hahaha "Where did you watch the 99 european cup final ?" I was at home jumping up and down at 3 oclock in the morning watching the game through a 14 inch tv in my room..lol

    as SAF said.."football, bloody h e l l "
  • Hari · 1 year ago
I disagree for those who said Liverpool-Milan finals was most memorable. The reason being, it wasnt like they were 3-0 down and in last 3 minutes they scored 3 goals and went onto penalties and won it? It was the best comeback, yes not the memorable win. Milan dominated 1st half, won 3-0 - Liverpool dominated 2nd half and they scored 3. Like how Utd was losing 3-0 to Spurs and won it 5-3 in last 25 mins. Thats a best comeback. '99 was most memorable as they scored 2 goals in space of 2 mins of AET, when Munich thought they won it. Sorry scousers, CL 05 - best comeback, not that memorable as Utd's games.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
No offense to the 2005 final and it was a great final.

But seriously, the 1999 final is the best.

Why? Two teams had a dream: to complete the Ultimate European Treble (Winning their domestic top tier league, primary domestic cup, and the European Cup/UEFA Champions League).

Manchester United won the EPL and the FA Cup while Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Manchester United became the first club from the Big 5 European club leagues (EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, and Bundesliga) to win the Ultimate European Treble.

And also, Liverpool's 3 goals against AC Milan in the 2005 UCL final only forced extra time and penalties.
