US played a much better game. Provided the controversy US played well should have won this game. Pretty good for a team that doesn't care much about soccer. USA will always be a Sports addicted country. USA played so much better then Brazil in this game

Luta I was so into your post until the Donovan comment. Donovan has some real ability to burn people BIG TIME. the problem with donovan is not his skill, it's what people want of him. after players like joe max-moore and claudio reyna the u.s. has a real lack of a #10 maestro playmaker (not that max-moore was ever #10 but the u.s. is in the dark about a lot of those things anyway) and everyone immediately turned to the new midfielder who was scoring goals in 2002. it's like if portugal saw c. ronaldo scoring goals from midfield and automatically put him in the center (we saw from man. u.'s injury problems that c. ronaldo fails HORRIBLY in that position). The fact is, donovan can score goals and set up people much better from the wing where he has the space to burn people, not in the middle where the main attribute needed is to hold onto the ball. i'm tired of all the donovan bashing because when donovan is on his game and played the way he should be played, the u.s. owns. (u.s. vs. ecuador, the landon donovan show)

you guys are gonna think i'm off my rocker for putting ching as the only forward but anyone who has played this system knows how it works - dempsey and donovan might as well be called forwards here because they are going to be the main attacking points in this lineup; requires really good wing backs (in my opinion these are the two that have proved most that they can get forward and back effectively, a jackie mcnamara type.) also require feilhaber to learn how to tackle, otherwise we need a new mastroeni type. in other words, whatever side the play's on, the wing back is the wing mid, and the wing mid is the second forward, running from the midfield which i think both of those players are better at.
also require adu to get better and get really good at distributing and holding the ball

Mike I hope you're right. Let's watch the games and see if they can prove it against some quality opponents. I think our team is overrated by fifa and I bought into it. The fact is our top players are not sought out by the superclubs, Man U, AC Milan, Barca, Real Madrid etc. Why not? In my opinion, b/c they are not as good as the players on those teams. We don't have any outstanding players on the world stage, we have solid players. Please don't bring up Beasley, and I know we have some players in the EPL, Dempsey is impressive, but overall these are just solid professionals.
Disservice to US soccer- I expect to watch the US win a world cup. I'm not satified with winning the gold cup, it's nice but c'mon. I want to watch the US send England, Germany, France home crying in the next world cup.

To Dan and NH,

I think you're doing a disservice to U.S. soccer. Let me remind everyone that we didn't even make it to the world cup between 1958 and 1990. The fact that you guys are mentioning that a 4-2 loss to Brazil is bad and we should get a new coach is a sign of how much expectations have improved.

To go along with what Mike was mentioning, between 2002 and 2006, what did we do after our shocking quarterfinal appearance? Nothing!!!! We just paraded around America like we are finally world beaters and proving that we are against Grenada and Bermuda and Guatemala(no offense to any of those countries). *** do you learn about your team from those games?

I think Bob Bradley is a good choice. He's at least making sure we play against strong opposition ON THE ROAD(@ Catalonia(could be cancelled) and @ Switzerland in October) and he's testing the entire player pool. However, he now has questions that need to be answered by 2010. With the lack of talent at striker since McBride's retirement, should Landon Deuchebag Donovan sit on the bench and let Jozy Altidore and/or Freddy Adu give it a go? With Oguchi Onyewu lacking form, do you give him good coaching and still believe in him or do you try out Jimmy Conrad or Jay DeMerit?

that's bull **** - we sucked in the last world cup because of bruce arena, not the boys. what was the point of his ching / twellman controversy if he never played ching. the italy game ended up as 10 vs. 9, and he never used his final sub??? there was a very good chance eddie johnson could have broken the deadlock with his speed on the tired italian defense. the fact is, there was nothing embarassing about how they played in the world cup. arena ****** up, we lost to the number two ranked team in the world and the ghana game was decided by a weak penalty call. the very first time the usa has been under any expectation in the world cup, bruce arena cracked under the pressure. in his press conference after the czech republic game, he failed to take any responsibility and instead focused on how bad donovan and beasley played. if i'm not mistaken, one of the jobs of the manager should be to take pressure OFF his players for them to play well. the world cup was poorly handled by the entire u.s. soccer federation, not the players. (don't get me started on how we're supposed to play a 4-5-1 with mcbride as the target forward, and donovan as the playmaker. donovan can really burn people, but that spot should be reserved for the zidane-esque players, not the c. ronaldo's of the world)

as for our A-squad being a C-squad against elite national teams, how can you say that? mexico's average ranking since the creation of the ranking system has been #10, and we're still undefeated to them in this decade. denmark, 3-1, one of the european teams most likely qualifying for euro '08, ecuador 3-1, another world cup team, demolished china, dominated the concacaf region with an undefeated record in the gold cup, and had a better showing against (a tougher) brazil than a fully loaded argentina squad (one can hardly call that "at home" when you can only sell 20,000 tickets for a usa vs. BRAZIL match, not to mention that most of the fans were just there to see brazil play, wearing brazil jerseys)

ps. copa america didn't even count in this recent calculation of the fifa world rankings, recognized as our "c" squad (literally, lower than our second squad) - there are no facts yet proven that i should face. this year's usa is as competitive as anyone against "elite" teams.

I'm not a doubter ******* without cause. I want our team to win, they just continue to disappoint.
Did you watch the last world cup? We tied italy b/c of a lucky own goal, and got our ***** whipped by Ghana. Copa America was an embarrassment. Now we're supposed to be happy we scored 2 on Brazil and gave up 4? at Home no less. Mexico is the only decent team we play well against. face the facts. Our A-squad is a C-squad against the elite national teams.

my *** new coach, copa america barely counts since that was our "c" squad, tough loss to sweden, and brazil can make anyone look bad.

in perspective, brazil beat argentina 3-0 without kaka or ronaldinho, and argentina's team was ******* STACKED

I only watched the highlights and I'm frustrated. The US team is just not very good. The own goal by Onyewu, dear god, was he that tired that he couldn't avoid running onto that ball. Howard must have wanted to strangle him after he saved that one on one.

I only watched the last 20 minutes and was just amazed that we weren't creamed!

Unfortunately, I love this guy, but it's time for Oguchi Onyewu to go. He's too slow to play in the premiership and he's too slow to play in international football. Jimmy Conrad, albeit he's 29, should get more caps. He's only good if the opposition plays a long ball game, thus making him pull WWE moves on the man he's marking.

Plus, it was soooooo obvious Bobby Convey is not fit.

Dempsey, once again proving he's America's best player.
