Also correction blackandredblood, Fredie Kanoute plays for Mali, Africa NOT the french national team. He is not like Senegal's Patric Viera (played for the French team), Ghana's Dessaily (played for the French team), Algeria's Zinadine Zidane (played for the French team) or Nigeria's Oguchi Onyewu (plays for the US team) to do such a thing.

Blackandredblood, I was just responding to nanai_is_transexual who somehow suggested that MLS need to first be better than the African leagues before they can even be considered to be anywhere near European quality. My point was the African leagues are way superior to the MLS for that to happen anytime soon. I backed up my claims with a list of big names to scare you off.

Yes, Africa is a continent not a country!!! The players I listed are from different countries in Africa. However, even from one single country, there is way more talent than the MLS..Just accept it.

Ivory coast for example: Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Salomon Kalou (Chelsea), Yaya Troure (Barca), Emmanuel Eboue (Arsenal), Kolo Troure (Arsenal), Kader Keita (Lyon)....

The list can be equally intimidating for you if I pick another country say Nigeria: Nwankwo Kanu, Obafemi Martins, Julius Aghahowa, Jay Jay Okocha, Finidi George etc. Remeber Chelsea's Taribo West and Celestine Babayaro were also Nigerians.

The MLS is definitely growing, new stadiums are going up every year. NY Red Bulls, DC United and Real Salt Lake all are getting brand new stadiums by next year and Kansas City in 2009. New expansion teams(two next year) are going to be coming every year, up to 18 by 2010. It may not overcome the NFL or MLB any time soon, but wait a generation or two, change takes some time. I am a supporter all the way until I die, it is one of the passions in my life. Anyone who is not from the United States should be happy about this growth. The United States has some of the best athletes in the world, it's about time some of them are football players. Besides, it's the one thing that we all have in common, don't be trashing us for it, we do nothing of the kind to you.

I am not here to rag on Idrom's comment in any way but I find it fascinating every one of the elite African players they mentioned is from a different country: George Weah is from Liberia and doesn't play any more, Eto'o is from Cameroon, drogba's from cote d'ivoire, Essien's from Ghana, Kanu is Nigerian, kanoute is french, and adebayor is Togolese. That's a good list of footballers.

Hey, African leagues are superior to the MLS. Come on guys, Africa lacks the money but has players with much better skills.

Plus, African leagues have produced some great players like George Weah, Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Nwankwo Kanu, Freddie Kanoute, Emmanuel Adebayabor etc.

Yes, the talents of most of these players were only realized after moving to Europe, but give some credit to the African leagues that produced them.

MLS products: Tim Howard, Brian Mcbride, Damacus Beasley, Clint Demsey etc...and we know none of them can compare to the African super stars above.

The MLS is just over ten years old, still a brand new league compared to other leagues around the globe, with the exception of Australia's league. The sport is certainly growing in the US and ten years from now could stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the big leagues, mark my words.

The U.S. soccer team has little support from the country but still performs well against other teams. Americans focus a lot more on sports such as American football, baseball, basketball, and even hockey a lot more than soccer. If America focused on developing soccer, in the next ten years the U.S. could easily surpass big European leagues.

flint, I don't even like the MLS, but the US(yanks) has done about as well as the english in the last few world cups. Yes the EPL is far superior to MLS but its been around for what 100 years. Soccer is a second tier sport in our country and we still feild a team thats competitive with England's team. I don't dispute your comment that our league has a long way to come.

Ahahaha... I refuse to even consider anything called "soccer". Ok jokes aside, there were a couple of descent goals in there, but it was looking at first or second division football. Champions League is another level completely! Certain mistakes like the dude around minute 1.55 missing the ball when he had a made shot... Come on guys, I'm glad if you yanks get into football but you still have a long way to come ;)
