What game were you guys watching??? Scotland fell asleep for the first goal, two men marking the throw in taker, schoolboy stuff. Scotland should have had a penalty on 16 mins for handball. Italy's 'second' goal, the one not given for offside, was not offside, it was however a handball, so was rightly ruled out. Fair play, our equaliser was indeed offside, I'll at least give you that. The Italy winner however was scandalous. How that was a free kick i will never know, if anything it was a foul on Hutton. All in all, disappointed at the result, but I thought our lads played pretty well, and had Faddy put his chance away on 80 mins, would have been very different.

There was no hand ball against Italy. His arm was tucked in. If you know the rules of the game, you will know what I am referencing.
The disallowed goal for Italy should have stood.
Scotland's goal should have been disallowed.
Scotland got a bad call resulting in the last goal. I don't know what the ref saw, but it looked to me the foul should have given Scotland posession.

I support England, and fair enough, we only have 1 world cup. But at least, when we win, we dont have to dive to beat teams (australia) and we dont have match fixing problems all the time. I'm so utterly sick of diving. It is totally impossible to even THINK that Italy do not dive. You cannot deny it, so don't ******* try - everyone knows Italy dives.
Italy were not the better team against Scotland. Yeah, they scored an early goal against a **** defence in the early part, but once Scotland got going...they got going. In the latter part of the match it was Scotland pushing forward constantly, and they nearly scored a couple of goals.
You didn't deserve to win. Sure, you may have been disallowed a goal you deserved, but you got away with a handball in the box, and you were given a freekick as a result of the worst piece of refereeing I've ever seen, where your player deserved a red card. So just **** and get over yourselves, you're not a quality team.

First off, everyone should shut up about cheating or bribing the ref. It was a hard fought match from both teams who pllayed very well. The reff was horrendous as well as the assistants in this game. It is unfortunate, but in the end the wrong calls were made against both teams.

The italians definitly do dive too often.. Scotland did amazing and deserved the victory.. Italians did get one good goal (the one disallowed was great as Craig Gorden made an amazing first save) the last goal was rubbish and just shows how the italians always play (divers).. Scotland played much better football, were always on the attack and were very unlucky not too score a few more..

If you genuinely believe that game should have finished 3-0 to Italy, you are indeed an idiot. As i said, the disallowed Italian goal was NOT offside, it was however a handball, so it shouldn't have counted anyway. The key moment of the game was at 1-1, 10 mins to go and McFadden missing that chance. Watching it again, i think he was just tired, you can see by the way he made the run into the box. Had he however scored, I wonder if all you Italian guys would be the ones bemoaning the referee for the 'disallowed' goal. At the end of the day, Italy won a match with a disputed goal, at a time when lets be honest, Scotland were on top and looked the more likely team to win the game. We didn't take our chances, so we lost. End of. No moaning, no abuse to the ref. Its football, it happens. To say Italy were the better team and deserved to win 3-0 though, thats just nonsense.

Italy played their typical game. Boring, counterattack football. As for the diving...yes they dive...along with a lot of other nations. It's become a sad element of the sport and should be stopped.
Scotland played well. They deserved a better result and they can ask McFadden why they didn't get it.
Officiating was horrible BOTH ways. Italy scored a goal that should not have been disallowed. Scotland scored a goal that should have been called back. And Italy was given a free kick for a foul that should have been called the other way.
In the end 1-1 would not have been enough for Scotland to qualify so maybe they should have come out playing hard in the first five minutes and they could have avoided all of this mess.
For those of you citing the match fixing and hooliganism in Italian soccer and somehow applying them to this match...wow...poor sports.

eurocup... i'm canadian of italian heritage so i cheer for canada first and i'm happy when italy does well or wins. as for the defensive game italy plays, i'm fine with it. i just prefer a little more attack minded football. i can appreciate the catenaccio when italy is playing a world powerhouse (ie: germany in world cup semi) but let's be honest. Italy has the players, the skill and the experience to dictate the play against almost any country on this planet. As hard as they worked, Scotland should not have been allowed to attack so freely in the second half. Italy sat back and it was a little scary. Long gone are the days of Maldini and Baresi in the back. THank god for Cannevaro and Zambrotta but Pannuci and Barzagli scared me.

As I've already stated, the goal you are claiming was disallowed for offside, which was wrong. It was however a handball, so either way, it should still have been disallowed. It doesn't matter what the foul was given for, there was still a foul. So still 1-0 Italy. I never at any point said we should have won the game, I said that we had the chances to win the game, we didn't take them, and I was big enough to say that was our undoing. The freekick at the end was scandalous whichever way you look at it. If there was foul of any sort, it should have gone Scotland's way. My whole argument was that there was no way Italy should have won 3-0, which you have yourself now retracted. Makes it hard to believe a word you say now doesn't it :d/

I'm just amazed the Italian (he must be Italian cos he supports Italy and we all know only Italians like Italy) managed to get through the spam protection. Complicated addition required.
Anyway, good to see people are still angry about the result, Scots angry, Italians still desperately claiming moral victory and defending their style of play. It shows how far Scotland has come to be this angry at losing narrowly to the Italians. For a long time we've considered draws or narrow defeats to the big teams as fortunate. Now we're getting somewhere because we actually want to beat these teams, and outplay them. This is good news for the future. Also, fans of teams like Italy would have scarcely given us a second thought. Now they're giving us due respect.
As far as the game is concerned, I agree with those who say the fukk up was Georgia. It's very true. That's a game we had to win - resting everything on outplaying Italy, and getting that bit of luck you need in those games, was too much.

The Italians are diving cheating arseholes, who have no level of shame of how they win a game. In the 2006 world cup, australia are really stretching them, and then surprise surprise a dive to get a penalty in the last minute. As a Scot I would rather watch England win the world cup again than ever have to watch those low diving corrupt scumbags. I can feel proud of what Scotland achieved in their group of death, as we played good fair football. At least the English also play fairly, which is much better to watch, even if they are the old enemy.

There was no hand ball against Italy. His arm was tucked in. If you know the rules of the game, you will know what I am referencing.
The disallowed goal for Italy should have stood.
Scotland's goal should have been disallowed.
Scotland got a bad call resulting in the last goal. I don't know what the ref saw, but it looked to me the foul should have given Scotland posession.

Italy were not the better team against Scotland. Yeah, they scored an early goal against a **** defence in the early part, but once Scotland got going...they got going. In the latter part of the match it was Scotland pushing forward constantly, and they nearly scored a couple of goals.

Sure, you may have been disallowed a goal you deserved, but you got away with a handball in the box, and you were given a freekick as a result of the worst piece of refereeing I've ever seen, where your player deserved a red card. Italy played their typical game. Boring, counterattack football. As for the diving...yes they dive...along with a lot of other nations. It's become a sad element of the sport and should be stopped.
Scotland played well. They deserved a better result and they can ask McFadden why they didn't get it.
Officiating was horrible BOTH ways.
Italy scored a goal that should not have been disallowed.
Scotland scored a goal that should have been called back.
And Italy was given a free kick for a foul that should have been called the other way.
In the end 1-1 would not have been enough for Scotland to qualify so maybe they should have come out playing hard in the first five minutes and they could have avoided all of this mess.

i'm canadian of italian heritage so i cheer for canada first and i'm happy when italy does well or wins. as for the defensive game italy plays, i'm fine with it. i just prefer a little more attack minded football. i can appreciate the catenaccio when italy is playing a world powerhouse (ie: germany in world cup semi) but let's be honest. Italy has the players, the skill and the experience to dictate the play against almost any country on this planet. As hard as they worked, Scotland should not have been allowed to attack so freely in the second half. Italy sat back and it was a little scary. Long gone are the days of Maldini and Baresi in the back. THank god for Cannevaro and Zambrotta but Pannuci and Barzagli scared me.

Anyway, good to see people are still angry about the result, Scots angry, Italians still desperately claiming moral victory and defending their style of play. It shows how far Scotland has come to be this angry at losing narrowly to the Italians. For a long time we've considered draws or narrow defeats to the big teams as fortunate. Now we're getting somewhere because we actually want to beat these teams, and outplay them. This is good news for the future. Also, fans of teams like Italy would have scarcely given us a second thought. Now they're giving us due respect.
As far as the game is concerned, I agree with those who say the fukk up was Georgia. It's very true. That's a game we had to win - resting everything on outplaying Italy, and getting that bit of luck you need in those games, was too much.
